Our commitment

Intemed Ltd recognises that climate change presents a significant risk to public health, healthcare delivery and the communities we serve. We are committed to managing and reducing the environmental impact of our operations while supporting the NHS’s wider sustainability and net-zero objectives. Our approach is based on accurate measurement, meaningful emissions reduction and transparent reporting. We will not describe Intemed as having achieved net zero unless that position is supported by complete, current and appropriately verified evidence.

Our net-zero target

Intemed’s target is to achieve net-zero greenhouse-gas emissions from its UK Scope 1 and Scope 2 activities by 2035. Scope 1 covers direct emissions from sources that Intemed owns or controls.Scope 2 covers indirect emissions associated with electricity, heating or cooling purchased and used by Intemed. The 2035 target currently relates specifically to Intemed Ltd’s UK Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions. It is an Intemed corporate commitment and does not represent NHS approval, independent accreditation or third-party certification.

Scope 3 emissions

We recognise that a substantial proportion of the environmental impact associated with healthcare delivery may arise from Scope 3 activities outside an organisation’s direct operational control. For Intemed, relevant Scope 3 categories are expected to include:business travel and accommodation; clinician and employee travel; purchased goods and services; information technology and communications; waste generated through our operations; home working and employee commuting; and activities within our supply chain. Intemed is working to identify, measure and report its relevant Scope 3 emissions. Once a reliable baseline has been established, we will publish appropriate reduction targets and a delivery pathway supporting the NHS’s supply-chain net-zero objectives. We will clearly distinguish between measured emissions, estimates and areas where reliable information is not yet available.

Establishing our baseline

As a recently established business, Intemed is developing its first organisational greenhouse-gas emissions baseline. The baseline will: identify the legal and operational boundaries covered; report emissions in tonnes of carbon-dioxide equivalent; include Scope 1, Scope 2 and relevant Scope 3 categories; use recognised greenhouse-gas accounting principles and current UK Government conversion factors; document assumptions, estimates and material exclusions; and be reviewed and approved by Intemed’s Board. Following completion of its first suitable reporting period, Intemed will publish a Carbon Reduction Plan setting out its baseline, current emissions, interim targets and planned reduction measures.

Our priorities

Clinician and business travel

We will seek to reduce avoidable travel emissions by:deploying clinical personnel as locally as operationally practicable; using remote meetings where physical attendance is unnecessary; planning programmes efficiently to reduce repeated or avoidable journeys; encouraging lower-emission travel options where safe and practical; and measuring material travel and accommodation emissions.Patient safety, clinical quality and service resilience will remain the primary considerations in all deployment decisions.

Procurement and suppliers

Where proportionate and relevant, Intemed will consider environmental performance when selecting suppliers and business partners. We will encourage material suppliers to: measure and report their emissions; maintain credible carbon-reduction plans; reduce unnecessary packaging and waste; use resources responsibly; and provide evidence supporting environmental claims.

Digital working

We will use digital processes where they provide a secure and effective alternative to paper-based or travel-intensive activity. Digital services will be selected with appropriate consideration of information governance, cybersecurity, accessibility and environmental impact.

Energy and premises

Where Intemed controls or materially influences energy procurement or premises management, we will seek to: improve energy efficiency; minimise unnecessary energy consumption; consider credible renewable-energy arrangements; and obtain reliable consumption information for emissions reporting.

Waste and resources

We will apply a practical waste hierarchy by seeking to prevent unnecessary consumption, reuse materials where appropriate and recycle responsibly. Clinical safety, infection prevention, regulatory requirements and patient welfare will take priority when determining whether an item can safely be reused or recycled.

Reduction before offsetting

Our priority is to prevent and reduce greenhouse-gas emissions. Intemed will not use carbon credits as a substitute for reasonable emissions reductions. If credits or removals are used in the future to address genuinely residual emissions, we will disclose: the emissions being addressed; the type and quantity of credits or removals; the standard under which they were issued; the relevant project and registry details; and the extent to which the claim relies on them. We will not describe emissions as neutralised or offset without appropriate supporting evidence.

Governance and accountability

The Board of Intemed Ltd is responsible for approving this policy and overseeing the company’s environmental commitments.Intemed will: assign responsibility for emissions measurement and reporting; review environmental performance at least annually; maintain supporting records for published claims; investigate material differences between targets and actual performance; correct inaccurate or outdated information promptly; and update this policy as the organisation and its evidence base develop. Environmental claims intended for public or tender use will be reviewed to ensure that their meaning, scope and supporting evidence are clear.

Reporting and transparency

Intemed intends to publish: its organisational emissions baseline; its Carbon Reduction Plan; progress against its reduction targets; material changes to the scope or methodology used; and an updated version of this policy at least annually. Our reporting will distinguish clearly between completed actions, current performance, formal commitments and future ambitions.

Continuous improvement

This policy reflects Intemed’s current position and will develop as better information becomes available. We will review relevant NHS requirements, government procurement guidance, recognised greenhouse-gas accounting practices and applicable environmental-claims standards when updating our approach.
